The emission plots are derived from the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS) Global Fire Assimilation System GFAS v1.2 operated by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF).
It produces daily estimates of wildfire and biomass burning emissions by assimilating Fire Radiative Power (FRP) observations from the MODIS instruments onboard the Terra and Aqua satellites (more info here).
Starting from 1 December 2025, emissions will instead be based on GFAS v1.4.2, which incorporates both MODIS and VIIRS satellite observations for improved accuracy and coverage (more info here).
